What is petrified wood ?
Petrified wood is a type of wood fossil preserved by the process called “petrification”, meaning “to change into stone”. All the organic materials of the wood have been replaced with minerals,most often asilicatesuch asquartz, while retaining the original structures of the wood.
This site is the source of Thai crafts that have been affiliated with the way of life of Tai Yuan (or Northern Thai) people in Sikhio District for nearly 200 years.
This reclining Buddha image made of sandstone is the oldest and largest in Thailand. It was built in approximately the 15th century Buddhist era (10th century A.D.)
